Terrace tips

Windy days on the terrace

Malta can be very windy, especially from October to April when the north-easterly gregale blows, and gusts up on the terrace are much stronger than at street level. Strong wind can arrive quickly, even on a sunny day.

  • Nothing loose outside when you're out or asleep. Bring in cushions, towels, clothes, toys and anything light. Wind can lift them over the railings, where they can damage cars or hurt someone in the street below.
  • Never leave things on the railings or wall. No drinks, plates, towels or washing on the ledges, and nothing thrown or shaken over the edge: people walk below.
  • Open the terrace doors slowly and hold on to them. When the doors open, the draught can slam the internal doors shut hard enough to trap fingers or crack glass. On a windy day, close the internal doors first, and keep children well away from door edges and hinges.
  • Close the terrace doors and windows when you go out. Wind and sudden showers can blow straight in.
  • Keep an eye on children outside. Keep chairs and tables away from the railings so they can't be climbed.

House rules

Just five house rules

Thank you for looking after the place and our neighbours.

Up to 2 guestsSunSea Malta is licensed by the Malta Tourism Authority for 2 guests. Only guests named on the booking may stay overnight.
Quiet from 10 pmIt's a residential building, and neighbours live here year-round.
No parties or eventsNot allowed under any circumstances.
No smoking or vaping indoorsThe terrace is fine: please use the ashtray.
No petsSome guests have allergies.

And two small requests: switch off the AC when you go out, since we run partly on our own solar power, and put only toilet paper down the toilet, because Malta's drains block easily.

In the apartment

How things work

Air conditioning

The units cool and heat. 24–26°C is comfortable in summer; switch to heat mode from November to March. The dehumidifier setting makes winter days feel warmer and fresher. Keep windows and the terrace door closed while it runs.

Solar hot water

Hot water comes from solar water heaters on the roof, and rooftop panels generate electricity for the apartment, so it's free, green and plentiful on sunny days.

Kitchen

Fridge, oven, hob, microwave and a pod coffee machine, with tea, coffee pods, sugar, salt and pepper to start you off. We don't advise drinking the tap water: there's a jug of drinking water in the fridge when you arrive.

Laundry & extras

Washing machine beside the sink, cleaning supplies under it, and a drying rack (please don't use the railings). Hairdryer in the bathroom cabinet; iron and ironing board in the walk-in wardrobe; extra blankets and a spare duvet under the mattress.

Wi-Fi & TV

Fast Wi-Fi throughout: details are in your arrival message and on the front of the printed book. The smart TV has Sky News and streaming apps; please sign out of your accounts before you leave.

Electricity

230V with UK-style three-pin plugs (Type G). If the power trips, check that the far-left switch on the fuse box just inside the front door is pushed up.

Bins & recycling

Bin days

Malta collects each type of waste on set days. Put bags outside the front door of the building in the evening, between 6 and 8 pm. On your last day, just leave sorted bags inside the apartment and Dee will take care of them. Leaving rubbish out on the wrong day can mean a fine.
